The municipal administration of Grosseto has appointed the federal president Marco Mazzieri in the 2024 Oscars of Sport ceremony, which saw the awarding of 246 athletes from the city’s clubs in the year that is coming to an end.
The mayor Antonfrancesco Vivarelli Colonna and the sports councilor, hon Fabrizio Rossi they presented a career plaque to one of the flags of Grosseto baseball: from 1980 to 2000, with a three-year stint in Bologna, he played 912 games with the BBC shirt, exceeding the milestone of a thousand hits. “A life for baseball, from a high-level athlete to the best coach in Europe. Sports ambassador and today FIBS federal president: an extraordinary journey that honors sport and Grosseto”: these are the words engraved on the plaque collected by the councilor Andrea Sgnaolinas Mazzieri was unable to participate due to federal commitments.
“The Oscars of sport represent an important added value for our territory – said Vivarelli Colonna and Rossi – A now traditional event. They demonstrate, effectively, how Grosseto is a place of excellence also in the various sports disciplines. We have many athletes and teams who succeed in various championships and competitions, well beyond the borders of the Maremma: this fills us with pride. We remember that our capital is the European Sports Community 2024, an achievement that is as prestigious as it is deserved.”
Baseball was also represented in the ceremony by the YMCA Francisco Cervelli Academy, directed in recent months by Marco Mazzieri, awarded for having won the U18 regional title and the U14 Pony League.
