The delayed celebration of the International Day of Children’s Rights (Jide), organized by the Beninese National Olympic and Sports Committee (Cnos-Ben), brought together more than 300 children around sporting disciplines, last Saturday, December 21, at the Cadjèhoun Public Primary School (Epp).

The
International Children’s Rights Day (IDD)placed under the sign of Olympic values and respect for children’s rights, offered many young people from the Terres Rouges and Citoyens des Rues International centers an immersion in various sporting disciplines. Through dynamic workshops, participants were able to discover athletics, judo, badminton, gymnastics, wrestling and even break dancing, an acrobatic dance that captivated their attention. Alongside these sporting activities, communications on Olympic education made it possible to raise children’s awareness of the history and principles of the Olympic Games (Jo), emphasizing sport as a lever for inclusion and social success. An artistic touch was also added with a painting workshop, thus promoting the creative expression of the young participants. Judoka Valentin Houinato, Benin’s representative at the Paris 2024 Olympics, marked this event with his presence, personally leading a judo workshop. At the end of the day, sports equipment, including balls, football posts, tennis rackets and jerseys, were given to the children and their supervisors, reinforcing their motivation to continue these practices. In his closing speech, the secretary general of Cnos-Ben, Fernando Hessou, recalled the importance of sport in the development of children and in the prevention of diseases. “Playing sport means investing in the health and development of future generations. We will continue to support these young people, because their enthusiasm testifies to the impact of this initiative,” he indicated.
