Championship Preparations Gain Momentum with Institutional Backing

HUELVA, Feb. 25 – The Huelva 2026 European Badminton Championship is gaining significant momentum as the official mascot, ‘Luz’, recently completed an institutional visit to key public administrations supporting the event. The championship is scheduled to capture place at the Carolina Marín Sports Palace from April 6 to 12.

The visit served as an opportunity for ‘Luz’ to express gratitude for the support of the three public administrations sponsoring the championship. The objective of these meetings has been to thank the role of institutions and their involvement in the designation of Huelva as the venue for the maximum continental tournament.

Key Stakeholders Reaffirm Commitment

During the visit, ‘Luz’ met with Teresa Herrera, the delegate of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Junta de Andalucía in Huelva, Pilar Miranda, the mayor of Huelva, and David Toscano, the president of the Provincial Council of Huelva. All three leaders reiterated the commitment of their respective institutions to the successful execution of the championship.

Officials highlighted the joint support of the Huelva City Council, the Department of Culture and Sports of the Regional Government of Andalusia and the Provincial Council of Huelva, whose collaboration has been key for the city of Huelva to once again place itself on the international badminton map. The choice of Huelva was also attributed to the sport’s strong roots in the province and the international prominence achieved through the career of Olympic champion Carolina Marín.

Local Leaders Emphasize Championship’s Benefits

The mayor of Huelva emphasized the city’s readiness to host major international sporting events, stating that the 2026 European Badminton Championship is an extraordinary opportunity to continue positioning the city as a top-level sporting and tourist destination.

Teresa Herrera added that the Board’s support responds to the already consolidated strategy of turning Andalusia into the best space to attract top-level sports competitions, and that Huelva was chosen to be a special place to project the Andalusia brand.

David Toscano pointed out that the union of the three administrations has been decisive in making the celebration of this competition possible, and predicted an vital economic, tourist and promotional return for the entire province of Huelva. He also expressed a desire to make it easier for sports fans and people from the towns of the province of Huelva to head to the Sports Palace and watch the Championship days.

Promoting Community Involvement

‘Luz’s’ institutional visits are part of a broader promotional plan developed by the Spanish Badminton Federation and the Andalusian Badminton Federation.
