Rafa Benítez Aims for Quick Resolution of Gabri Veiga’s Situation
The Celta Midfielder Gives Approval for Transfer to Italian Champions
Rafa Benítez, coach of Celta de Vigo, expressed his desire on Saturday for the future of U-21 international Gabri Veiga to be resolved “as soon as possible” as it appears likely that he will leave the Galician team due to genuine interest from Napoli.
“The market is as it is and the interest in Gabri is real. Ideally, if there is a situation that needs to be resolved, it should be resolved soon. However, if not, I’m delighted with him,” Benítez said during his press conference.
The Celta midfielder has given his approval for a transfer to the Italian champions, but Napoli is currently unwilling to pay the €40 million release clause demanded by Celta de Vigo’s president, Carlos Mouriño.
“We cannot control the market, we do not know if it will be easy or difficult for him to leave sooner or later. Suddenly, a team can arrive and say they will pay the clause and you have nothing to do or say, while another team can make a close offer and you have to consider what to do,” Benítez commented.
Benítez noted that Gabri Veiga is lacking “a bit of match rhythm” as he joined the preseason late after participating in the U21 European Championship with the national team. However, the coach made it clear that he counts on Veiga for tomorrow’s game against Atlético Osasuna.
