It’s not a bribe. This is a Christmas gift to express gratitude.

Even if my father forgot to give me gifts while raising me, he always made sure to get year-end Christmas gifts from my teachers. My father always told me, “You should choose your gift carefully and include a handwritten card.” He also said, “This is all to express our gratitude to the teacher and build a stronger relationship with the priests.” Of course, my father was always willing to cover the cost of gifts.

Thanks to this, I was able to give an end-of-year thank you gift to everyone who taught me, from school teachers to piano teachers, tennis coaches, and counselors. Above all, my father considered it very important to express his gratitude to everyone who taught him throughout the year and to maintain a closer and more friendly priestly relationship. These teachings have been passed down to me as a college admissions counselor, and I also give the same advice to my students.

Of course, gifts are not given in return, but expressing gratitude to those who have guided you in life is a basic courtesy that must be observed, especially at times like the end of the year. Nevertheless, for students who do not yet fully understand the importance of gifts, let us suggest a few things that can be put into practice right away.

•What if your final grade is 89.5% and there is only one teacher who can round up your grade?

•What if you have to suddenly ask for a favor before an important moment? Who will help you?

•What if I need a letter of recommendation to apply to college, scholarship, or program?

•If the course grade is close to failing and the course withdrawal period has passed, who can help ensure that my college admissions are not affected?

•If you have urgent business to do while no one is at school during the holidays, who would be willing to answer your urgent email requests?

•If the class you want to take or the teacher you want to take next semester has exceeded the quota, who can move you forward on the waiting list?

With the unpredictable college transition ahead of you, at least having someone on your side can turn the situation in your favor. There is no teacher who wouldn’t be touched by a gift from a student who expresses gratitude and gratitude. Everyone’s heart is warmed by sincere kindness. When the student you are teaching expresses sincere gratitude, it is only natural that your liking for that student will increase.

Gifts are another means of communication. It is also an interpersonal skill that promotes or strengthens relationships. We all get back the amount of effort we put in, not just in going to college, but in the process of living life. Christmas is an opportunity to naturally express gratitude. It’s not too late to send a gift card. This holiday season, try to express your gratitude with a more generous heart. (213)999-5416
