First victories for Uzbekistan, Colombia and South Korea in the championship.
On the fourth day of the 2024 World Junior Judo Championships, crowds from around the world gather in Tajikistan’s capital, Dushanbe.
After three incredible days of Judo, October 5th is heavyweight day.
The event was officially opened by the Director General of the IJF Vlad Marinescu y Ismail MahmadzoirPresident of Judo of Tajikistan.
During the grand ceremony, which included some of Tajikistan’s biggest judo stars and impressive performances, the crowd celebrated the birthday of Emomali RahmanPresident of Tajikistan.
Gold for Colombia in -78kg
There was history for Colombia. At -78kg Brenda Olaya Brilliantly, she pushed back her German opponent and became world junior champion for the first time in her country. Rustam Emomali, the mayor of Dushanbe, presented the medals.
“I am very excited. I’ve worked hard for this, it’s my last junior year so it’s great. I am very proud to represent Colombia. I love them and they are very kind, very generous. Thank you Tajikistan.” Olaya said.
Textbook Tomoe-nage in -100 kg final
from Uzbekistan Muhammadsodik Sodikov He fought in the -100kg final and a well-executed waza-ari by Tomoe-Nage earned him the junior title. Director General Marinescu presented the medals.
“We needed this gold very much, the whole team supported me, so many thanks to them,” said Sodikov, “It was my first time in Tajikistan, it is very nice and the spectators were very supportive. We feel the love of our neighboring country, thank you all,” he added.
First Korean victory at +78kg
At +78 kg Hyeonji Lee gave a good performance. The Korean fighter won Celia Cancan of France in the final. Gulnara Kenja Khasanzodathe Minister of Labor, Migration and Employment of Tajikistan presented the medals.
In the +100 kg final, Denis Batchaev took advantage of an Azerbaijan mistake Kanan Nasibov and achieved an inescapable control that earned him the gold. It was presented to him by the president of Judo of Tajikistan, Mahmadzoir.
The excited crowd will return tomorrow for the Mixed Team Event.
