More than 120 years old and passed down from his grandmother, from whom he also got the name. “My grandmother Ludovina was a baker and would make guarda brown balls for the holidays,” he recalls of the beginnings of the skill that was passed on to his mother’s hands, and later to his own. “I started when I was a child helping to make the ball,” he said, going back to his early years in the village of Masinhas, in Guarda, after living in Angola until he was six years old. Today, he not only continues the tradition of making this traditional dessert for the holidays, but tries to make it more popular.
