Carlos Alcaraz’s High Price Tag Keeps Him Out of Vienna Tournament

The director of the Vienna tournament, Herwig Straka, has revealed that the cache of Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz is “very expensive,” which is why he will not be participating in the event. Alcaraz, a 20-year-old player from Murcia, has been dealing with discomfort in the plantar fascia of his left foot and muscle fatigue in the lumbar area. However, according to Straka, it is the economic challenges associated with Alcaraz’s high price tag that prevent his participation in the Vienna tournament.

In an interview with ‘Der Standard’, Straka stated, “It’s too expensive. He asks for 800,000 dollars (700,000 euros at the exchange rate).” Despite his high cache, other top-ranked players such as Daniil Medvedev, Sinner, Rublev, Tsitsipas, and Zverev will be competing in the tournament.

Carlos Alcaraz’s Resignation from the Basel Tournament

Carlos Alcaraz, the Spanish tennis player currently ranked number two in the world, will not be participating in the Basel tournament in Switzerland. Alcaraz reported a couple of injuries to the tournament organizers, including inflammation in the sole of his left foot and problems in the gluteal muscles. As a result, he will not be competing in Basel and aims to make a comeback at the Paris Bercy Masters 1,000.

The Paris tournament, scheduled for the first week of November, will also mark Alcaraz’s reunion with Serbian player Novak Djokovic, who is vying for the world number one spot before the year ends. Alcaraz’s recent tour of Asia did not go as planned, with losses to Jannik Sinner in the semifinals of Beijing and Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16 of the Shanghai Masters 1,000.
