The Cuban baseball team departed this Wednesday for South Korea as part of its journey to the Premier 12 tournament, which will take place between November 10 and 24 between Mexico, Chinese Taipei and Japan.

In the process of preparation, the group led by Armando Johnson will participate in the South Korean Liga de Desarrollo Otoñal, from October 18 to November 2, according to the Swing Completo website. This event will give out cash prizes and the champion will receive 20 million won (the equivalent of just over 14,700 US dollars).

Before departure, the JIT Deporte Cubano Facebook page published some snapshots at the José Martí International Airport in Havana.

As for the Premier, Cuba, whose selection was represented on Tuesday morning, is part of group B together with South Korea, Dominican Republic, Australia, Taipei and Japan, current champion.

The matches of this round will take place in the “Vantelin Dome Nagoya” stadiums, a Japanese dream, and in the “Taipéi Dome” and “Tianmu”, both in Taipéi.

As regards section A, Mexico, the United States, Venezuela, the Netherlands, Panama and Puerto Rico will compete, from 10 to 14 November, in the “Panamericano Charros de Jalisco Stadium” in Guadalajara and in the “Santa Teresita de Tepic” in Nayarit, all in Mexican cities.

In this third edition, the tournament will have a similar format to that of previous editions. After the first phase, the top two in each group will compete in the Super Ronda, scheduled at the Tokyo Dome.

The leaders of that stage will compete for gold, while third and fourth will fight to get onto the awards podium.

In the previous Premier 12, Cuba was eliminated immediately after a pathetic performance summed up in two dunks out of three possible. They received 26 of 28 striking outs, did not hit any extra bases and their batters suffered 28 strikeouts, managing to negotiate just four bases.

The previous edition of the event, held in 2019, was won by Japan. Meanwhile, four years earlier, in 2015, the first championship was won by South Korea.
