Former player Sami Khedira believes that Xabi Alonso, currently 44 years old, is destined for a swift return to managing a leading European football club. Khedira’s assessment comes after Alonso’s recent departure from Bayer Leverkusen.

“I am sure that he will continue to be one of the best coaches in the world. What he achieved with Leverkusen was outstanding. If you look back at the first four months in Leverkusen, he also struggled there. He lost a few games, the results were not that good. It took time to implement his system. His style of play requires time, communication on the pitch, understanding of the players and trust,”

“Maybe he focused too much on his style and not on the style that his top players needed. That’s perhaps the most important point. Real Madrid is of course something special,”
