Former world number one women’s tennis player Maria Sharapova (37, Russia) is scheduled to be inducted into the World Tennis Hall of Fame.
The Tennis Hall of Fame announced on the 25th, “Sharapova and her doubles team members Mike and Bob Brian (both of the United States) have been selected as candidates for induction in 2025.” Sharapova, who reached the top by defeating Serena Williams (USA) in the singles final of Wimbledon at the age of 17 in 2004, achieved a career grand slam by winning the 2006 US Open, the 2008 Australian Open, and the 2012 French Open. To be inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame, a player must receive more than 75% of the votes from experts, existing members, and fans. Sharapova ranked first in the World Tennis Hall of Fame fan vote held from the 3rd to the 12th of last month. Sharapova said, “It is a great honor to be nominated for the Hall of Fame, but it is even more special thanks to the support from my fans.”
