On November 1st and 2nd, 2024, the German Association Championship in ID-JUdo took place in Norderstedt with successful NRW participation.
The German Association Championships, organized by 1. SC Norderstedt, took place this year on November 1st and 2nd in the sports hall of the South School Center in Norderstedt. Unfortunately, only four regional associations were represented this year with a total of 13 teams: five teams from North Rhine-Westphalia, four teams from Bavaria and two teams each from the Rhineland and Baden. Due to the smaller field of participants, the fight was fought on a mat, especially since there were only four judges available.
Since the German championship of association teams is held in two competition classes (WKI and WKII) for judoka with stronger motor skills and those with limited motor skills, there were six titles to be awarded.
Competition class I and competition class II Teams each consist of five women in the weight classes: -52 kg, -57 kg, -63 kg, -70 kg, +70 kg.
Teams of five men each in the weight classes: -66 kg, -73 kg, -81 kg, -90 kg, +90 kg.
Additionally mixed teams in competition classes I and II: women -57 kg, -70 kg, +70 kg
Men -73 kg, -90 kg, +90 kg.
North Rhine-Westphalia traveled with five teams and fielded one team for each competition. Only in women’s competition class II was NRW unable to field a team due to the absence of a club.
Two days before, the BRSNW squad prepared intensively for the upcoming championship at the Hennef Sports School.
As usual, only the teams from North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria competed in men’s competition class I. The winner was determined in “Best of Three” mode. NRW won the first encounter 3-2 and the rematch 4-1, meaning they were able to regain the title they lost last year.
As in previous years, the women from North Rhine-Westphalia became German champions again without a fight in competition class I. It is unfortunate that no other regional association was able to field a team here.
In the women’s competition class II, the teams from Bavaria and Baden faced each other. The women from Baden won both matches 3-2.
In the men’s competition class II, four teams competed, so that everyone fought against everyone in a pool mode. The judoka from North Rhine-Westphalia won all three matches against Baden, Rhineland and Bavaria with 4:1 each and thus secured the German championship title.
Three regional associations registered for the mixed team competitions, so that the mixed team from North Rhine-Westphalia became German champions in competition class I without an opponent and therefore without a fight.
In the mixed competition in competition class II there was some tension in the matches against Bayern. While the first round was won comfortably 4:2, at the end of the second match it was 3:3, so a tiebreak had to bring the decision. The men’s 90 kg class was drawn – actually an unfavorable draw for NRW, 90 kg fighter Victor Gdowczok had recently suffered an ippon defeat against his Bavarian opponent. But in the decisive tiebreak, Victor surpassed himself and after just a few seconds threw his opponent onto his back with a full throw and ippon, so that this title could also be won.
NRW state coach Frank Schuhknecht was extremely satisfied with the performance of his judoka. Five of six possible titles were won. The most successful points collector that day was Ben Musaeus from Hückeswagen, who won all five of his fights early and thus made a significant contribution to winning the title.
