H1: Lance Stroll’s Wrist Injury in Doubt as Aston Martin Confirms Race Withdrawal

Stroll Exits Spanish Grand Prix, Future in Doubt

Barcelona, Spain – Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant driver Lance Stroll has withdrawn from the Spanish Grand Prix due to a recurring wrist injury, casting doubt over his participation in the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix and potentially beyond.

Aston Martin confirmed Stroll’s withdrawal on Saturday evening, stating that the Canadian driver “has been experiencing pain in his right hand and wrist, which his medical consultant believes is related to the procedure he underwent earlier this year following a cycling accident.”

Stroll had initially qualified for Sunday’s race, securing 14th position on the grid, but his participation was already under scrutiny following a post-qualifying summons from the stewards for procedural infringements. The team had indicated that Stroll would be evaluated ahead of the race.

Croft Questions Stroll’s Fitness

Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft has cast doubt on Stroll’s claimed fitness, given the timing of his withdrawal and his performance in qualifying. Croft told Sky’s The F1 Show, “If they’ve been monitoring [the injury] for six weeks, then surely they wouldn’t have put Lance in the car in qualifying if he might not be fit enough to do the race.”

“Lance puts in a lap that takes him P7 in Q1. He’s obviously fit enough to drive well at some stage during that qualifying session,” Croft added, referencing Stroll’s strong initial performance.

Croft’s comments highlight the apparent contradiction between Stroll’s pace in qualifying and the team’s decision to withdraw him from the race.

Stroll’s Behavior in Question

Adding to the intrigue, speculations have emerged surrounding Stroll’s behavior following his elimination from qualifying. According to rumors, Stroll was angry and expressed his frustration by swearing and throwing objects in the garage.

However, via an Instagram post, Harry Rush, one of Stroll’s mechanics, denied that Stroll swore at team members. Croft, though, seemed to confirm that an altercation occurred:

“I understand that a helmet was thrown, to the extent that the helmet might have been damaged, such was the force that it hit the wall. There was a lot of shouting and swearing going on as well,” Croft said, noting Stroll’s history of such outbursts.

Drugovich in Line for Stroll’s Seat

The most likely replacement for Stroll is reserve driver Felipe Drugovich. However, Drugovich may not be available, as he is scheduled to compete in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. Aston Martin will now have to consider other options to fill Stroll’s seat.

Stroll’s future in Formula 1 remains uncertain. The Canadian driver faces a potential race absence after this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix – his home race – and possibly longer depending on the severity of his injury. Keep checking 247sports.news for the latest updates on this developing story.
