In a disappointing turn of events, the San Antonio Spurs have once again fallen back into their old habits after breaking their 18-game losing streak against the Lakers. This time, they faced a humiliating defeat at home against the Pelicans, with a staggering score of 110-146.
A One-Sided Game from the Start
Right from the first quarter, it was evident that the Pelicans were the superior team, leading with a score of 20-33. The Spurs’ defensive weaknesses were exposed throughout the game, allowing the Pelicans to dominate and secure their fourth consecutive victory, including their seventh win on the road.
Leading the charge for the Pelicans, CJ McCollum scored an impressive 29 points, while Brandon Ingram contributed 26 points. The team also set a new franchise record with 22 three-pointers.
Wembanyama Shines, but Spurs Struggle
Despite a commendable performance by Victor Wembanyama, who scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, the Spurs were unable to match the Pelicans’ strength. With his eighth double-double, Wembanyama surpassed Dwight Howard’s record for players 19 years old or younger.
With a dismal record of 4-21, the Spurs currently hold the title of the worst team in the Western Conference. In fact, they are only surpassed by the Detroit Pistons, who have a record of 2-24. On the other hand, the Pelicans celebrate their sixteenth victory and currently hold the seventh spot in the Western Conference standings.
