On Sunday 8th September the cantonal event called Very sportywhich aims to allow the population to get closer to all the sports present in the area.
In Chiasso, DYK participated by offering, in addition to the information stand and the testing area of some techniques, two demonstrations on the stage in Piazza Indipendenza. Thanks to the young people who made themselves available Paul Levi was able to introduce the discipline of judo to those interested: from preparatory exercises, to falls, to projection and control techniques, we moved on to the exercise of repetition of entries (uchi-komi), to randori (free exercise) to examples of competition (shiai). Great enthusiasm from those who participated and those who watched, there was no shortage of open applause. The demonstrations were commented by the president Marco Frigerio who did not fail to tell the story of Jigoro Kano, the Founder of the discipline, and to highlight the purposes and principles he wanted to promote. Judo was born as an educational method and, only in a later phase, was transformed into a sport. The sporting aspect, however, is still only a part of the discipline. Despite the time, several young people have had the opportunity to try judo, the dojo in via Cattaneo 10 in Chiasso is always open to those who wish to take a trial lesson.
The weekend was also characterised by two competitions.
Brothers Oleksii and Illia Dmytrashyk participated in the tornado in Brno in Czechia. Oleksii won three matches, losing two, to finish with a good fifth place. Illia stopped in the first match, due to a missed waza-ari that should have been attributed to a nice projection in sumi-gaeshi. Judo, however, teaches you to accept the verdicts, so, regardless of what it could have been, the 2024 samurai of the DYK will also start again with renewed enthusiasm towards the next competitive appointment.
In Weinfelden, the ranking tournament was scheduled. Two third places were won by Chiasso fighters: Luke Bürgisser in the U18 -90 kg and Natan Weber in the U13 at -33 kg. Both performed well, with Luke winning two matches and Natan four.
The next official competitive event will be the ranking tournament in Morat on the weekend of 21st and 22nd September.
