Mark your calendars, sports enthusiasts! The new Sport Arena Vienna, a state-of-the-art, energy-neutral, and multifunctional sports facility, is set to open its doors on September 6, offering a day full of sports, entertainment, and music – all for free!
Opening Festival: A Day of Sports, Entertainment, and Music
The opening event, taking place from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., will offer visitors a chance to try their hand at various sports, participate in interactive activities, enjoy live music, and engage with talented athletes. The event is designed to be barrier-free and environmentally friendly, with convenient access by public transport – the U2 Stadion station is nearby.
Numerous indoor and outdoor stations invite visitors to participate. In the ball sports halls, your own sporting skills can be tried out, whether for badminton beginners training, floorball training, basketball dribbling or when throwing handball with throwing speed measurement. 4 Times the Capacity of Dusika Stadium
The Sport Arena Vienna boasts an impressive 13,000 square meters of sports areas, four times larger than the former Dusika stadium. This expansive facility includes:
- Ballsport: 3,000 m²
- Gymnastics: 1,500 m²
- Athletics: 6,500 m²
- Other sports (multifunctional rooms): 2,000 m²
Energy-Neutral and Eco-Friendly
The new arena is operated by Vienna Holding Sport GmbH on behalf of the City of Vienna and follows sustainability principles. Its energy-neutral design promotes a greener approach to sports and events.
Trial Operation: A Resounding Success
Since the beginning of August 2025, the Sport Arena Vienna has been successfully undergoing trial operation. Athletes and clubs have praised the new facility, with various sports such as handball, badminton, gymnastics, and martial arts being enthusiastically enjoyed in the diverse training sessions.
The variety of the new facility was particularly evident in the training company: handball and badminton clubs were enthusiastic about the ball sports hall, and the gymnasts also put the latest devices of the specially designed art gymnasium through their paces.
