The representation of the Southern zone, which took first overall place in children’s school judo.

EL NUEVO DIARIO, SANTO DOMINGO. The Southern region was awarded the absolute first place in the National Children’s School Judo Championship held this Friday by the Dominican Judo Federation (Fedojudo) at the National House of that discipline in the Olympic Center.

The contest, which was held at ages U13 and U15 for both men and women, had the support of the Ministry of Sports, chaired by engineer Kelvin Cruz, and the National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI), headed by Alberto Rodríguez.

The representation from the South obtained the highest score, with 1,100, the product of 10 gold medals, nine silver and 10 bronze, to lift the first place trophy, presented by Mr. Gilberto García, president of Fedojudo.

With a total of 1,069 points, the team from the Eastern region was in second position, after achieving 10 gold, six silver and nine bronze medals.

Meanwhile, the representative of the North region, with 641 points, occupied the third place, after achieving six first place metals, three second place medals and 11 bronze medals.

The Metropolitan area took fourth place, with 589 points, the product of five gold, eight silver and nine bronze medals.

The president of Fedojudo indicated that the two best athletes from each region took part in the national championship, after having been champions in the regional qualifiers.

A total of 220 athletes from different educational centers, previously selected, from the North, South, East and Metropolitan Area regions participated in the sports meeting.

Opening ceremony

The president of Fedojudo, Mr. Gilberto García, assured that the future of judo lies in the development of the bases and that the children’s national championship is part of the project that is carried out in schools.

In the activity, Dulce María Piña, representing the Dominican Olympic Committee, highlighted the work of Fedojudo in the training of athletes who will be the future of that sport.

Dr. Dionisio Guzmán, president of the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame, was also present at the opening ceremony, as well as sensei Juan Chalas, as well as members of the Fedojudo executive Edy García, Roberto Gerez, Ruddy Contreras, Luisa Martínez, as well as Franklin de la Cruz, president of Triathlon, and Eddy González, technical director of Inefi.
