Sony Soars into Mobile Gaming with MLB The Show

Sony, renowned for its PlayStation consoles, is making a significant push into the mobile gaming market. After announcing Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble and Horizon Steel Frontiers, the company has revealed MLB The Show, a baseball simulator optimized for mobile devices running iOS and Android.

Developed by San Diego Studio, the same team behind the console series, MLB The Show for mobile promises to deliver a realistic baseball experience, built from the ground up for the platform. The game has already launched in the Philippines and is set to debut internationally soon.

Realistic Gaming on the Go

MLB The Show for mobile is designed to run smoothly on a range of devices, including the iPhone 16, Samsung Galaxy S25, and Sony Xperia V. On more powerful devices, the game promises improved graphics, higher frame rates, and increased resolution. However, there’s no cross-play functionality with console games.

From Sony’s Blockbuster Series to Mobile Screens

In the US, the MLB The Show series is one of the main PlayStation flagships in terms of sales and profitability from microtransactions.

As of late October, MLB The Show 25 is ranked among the top ten highest-grossing games of 2025 in the US. Its mobile release could significantly strengthen PlayStation’s overall services business.

Sony’s Mobile Ambitions

Sony’s expansion into mobile gaming has been in the works for several years. In 2024, PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst revealed plans to form a “strong team of mobile game developers,” aiming to extend Sony’s console expertise to new mobile audiences.
