Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have been nominated for the 2026 Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award, cementing their status as the leading forces in men’s tennis. The nominations acknowledge a remarkable 2025 season for both players, marked by Grand Slam triumphs and consistent dominance on the ATP Tour.

The Laureus World Sports Awards, often dubbed the “Oscars of sport,” will be presented on April 20th in Madrid.

A Season of Achievements

Alcaraz enjoyed a stellar 2025, winning a Tour-leading eight titles, including major championships at Roland Garros and the US Open. Sinner also had a breakthrough year, capturing the Australian Open and Wimbledon titles, as well as a second consecutive Nitto ATP Finals crown in Turin.

Sinner also held the No. 1 ranking in the PIF ATP Rankings from June 2024 through September 2025, before Alcaraz reclaimed the top spot after his US Open victory.

This nomination places Alcaraz and Sinner among a distinguished group of tennis players who have been recognized by the Laureus Awards. Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have both been honored multiple times, with Federer winning four consecutive awards between 2005 and 2008, and again in 2018. Nadal received the award in 2011 and 2021. Novak Djokovic has also been a five-time recipient of the prestigious honor.

Fonseca Also Recognized

Adding to the tennis representation at the awards, #NextGenATP star Joao Fonseca has been shortlisted for the World Breakthrough of the Year award, recognizing his rapid rise on the Tour. Fonseca won two ATP Tour titles in 2025 and reached a career-high ranking of No. 24.
