Nouf Al-Marwaai: Saudi Arabia’s yoga instructor Nouf Al-Marwai has been appointed the new president of the Asian Yoga Sports Federation. Al-Marwai expressed his pride and gratitude for the support he received from the federation’s members at the sixth General Assembly meeting held in Dubai this week. He was unanimously appointed president here. Representatives of national yoga federations from 15 countries participated in this program. On this occasion, he said, ‘It has been a privilege for me to serve Saudi Arabia as the President of the Saudi Yoga Committee and now I will be proud to serve the country as the President of the Asian Yogasana Sports Federation.’

She thanked the federation, member countries, UAE Yoga Federation and the Saudi leadership for their unwavering support, especially in empowering Saudi women in sports. He further said, ‘The support and confidence of the members in appointing me as the President of the Asian Yoga Federation reflects Saudi Arabia’s leading position in Asia in many fields, including sports, in which significant progress has been made recently.’ He also praised the guidance and support of Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal, Minister of Sports and Chairman of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, who appointed him to the post and played a key role in maintaining Saudi Arabia’s presence at many international forums.
Such is Nauf’s journey
Nauf was diagnosed with systemic lupus at the age of 17. After this the doctors told his parents that there were not many chances of his recovery. After this, Nauf started reading yoga books and also started practicing some asanas. He continued practicing yoga, which later improved his health. She graduated from college and after that she became a full-time yoga instructor.

In an interview, she said that after starting yoga, she has lived 21 years without any medicine. Nauf began teaching yoga in Jeddah in 2004 as the Saudi Arabia Yoga School. In 2010, its name was changed to Arab Yoga Foundation because then yoga had spread to Arab countries also. In June 2017, due to the efforts of Nouf and the Foundation, the General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia gave its approval for the Yoga Day celebration. As of 2019, Arab Yoga Foundation has taught yoga to more than 10,000 people.
