Judokas of San Juan Sweep the National Superior Judo Championship
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – The Judo Association of San Juan de la Maguana has triumphed in the National Superior Shiai Judo Championship, held on Saturday at the Air Force Sports Center. The San Juan team amassed a total of 712 points, securing seven gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, thus clinching the grand champion trophy.
Dominance in Women’s and Men’s Categories
The San Juan judokas showcased their prowess in both the women’s and men’s categories. The women’s team bagged two gold and one bronze, while the men’s team claimed four gold, one silver, and one bronze. The team’s dominance was evident in their exceptional medal haul.
Monte Plata Judo Association Secures Second Place
Following closely behind, the Monte Plata Judo Association earned second place with a total of 145 points. This was achieved through a combination of one gold, four silver, and five bronze medals. Notably, the Monte Plateños secured second position in the men’s category, capturing one gold, three silver, and three bronze medals.
San Cristóbal Judo Association Takes Third Place
The representation of San Cristóbal rounded off the podium, winning the third place trophy by accumulating one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, amounting to 112 points.
Ceremonial Inauguration and Participation
The championship kicked off with an opening ceremony attended by Vice Minister of Sports Franklin De la Mota, Dulce María Piña from the Dominican Olympic Committee, Major Kelvin Peña, deputy director of Sports of the Dominican Republic Air Force, and Deputy Director of Economic Kitchens, José Esteban Perdomo.
A total of 210 athletes from 20 provinces, along with judokas from the military and police forces, participated in the tournament. This event served as a crucial platform for preparing athletes who will represent the Dominican Republic in the upcoming XXV Central American and Caribbean Games 2026.
