Inner Transformation Takes Root: Isha Foundation’s Growing Impact in Mauritius and Beyond
Published: February 23, 2026
A Growing Community of Well-being
Thirteen years after its initial outreach, Isha Foundation continues to foster a silent yet profound transformation through yoga, meditation, and dedicated community action. This movement is cultivating an inner awakening, inspiring hope for a lasting Isha center on the island of Mauritius.
Foundations Built on Isha Kriya
In 2012, during a visit to Mauritius, Sadhguru highlighted the potential of establishing a strong foundation through Isha Kriya – One Drop Spirituality
. Four days of engagement brought together a diverse audience, including the High Commissioner of India, former ministers, and local leaders. The seed of an Isha center in Mauritius was planted.
A Global Reach
Founded in 1992, Isha Foundation is a volunteer-run, non-religious, non-profit organization dedicated to human well-being through yoga and social initiatives. Its central hub, the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore, India, houses the Dhyanalinga – a unique meditation space – and the Adiyogi, recognized as the world’s largest bust sculpture.
Today, Isha Foundation boasts over 17 million volunteers and more than 300 centers globally, including locations in Bengaluru, Tennessee, and Los Angeles.
Ecology as a Planetary Priority
Isha Foundation’s commitment extends beyond personal well-being to encompass large-scale ecological initiatives:
- Cauvery Calling: An agroforestry project that has planted approximately 122 million trees with the participation of over 238,000 farmers, aiming to revitalize the Cauvery river basin.
- Project GreenHands: Awarded the Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar Award, this initiative has facilitated the planting of over 35 million trees.
- Rally for Rivers: A campaign spanning over 9,300 km across 16 Indian states, mobilizing more than 160 million people for river revitalization.
- Save Soil: Launched in 2022, this global movement raises awareness about soil regeneration, reaching an estimated 4 billion people and securing commitments from at least 81 countries. In Mauritius,
Save Soil
events were held in schools, universities, and shopping centers, emphasizing the importance of increasing soil organic matter to between 3% and 6%.
Education and Rural Empowerment
Through Isha Vidhya, approximately 10,200 students from rural areas receive quality education, achieving a 100% pass rate in national higher examinations. The Action for Rural Rejuvenation program has positively impacted over 11.3 million people in nearly 7,500 villages in southern India, providing medical care, sports programs, and agricultural support.
Transformative Experiences in Mauritius
Hundreds of participants in Mauritius have completed the Inner Engineering program, reporting improvements in their physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Many have become volunteers, contributing to initiatives like Save Soil
, International Yoga Day, and the upcoming Miracle of Mind
meditation app, which reached one million downloads within 15 hours of its 2025 launch.

Personal Stories of Impact
The impact of Isha Foundation extends beyond statistics, resonating in the personal journeys of individuals:
Vinay: From Anxiety to Entrepreneurial Clarity
“I was a perfectionist, hard on myself. I developed thyroid disorders, chronic anxiety, panic attacks. The treatments only temporarily alleviated the symptoms.”
Vinay
Vinay, a textile entrepreneur, found relief and clarity through Isha Kriya and the Shambhavi Mahamudra Kriya, even reducing his reliance on medication. He credits the Insight – The DNA of Success
program in Coimbatore with providing invaluable tools for intuition and business acumen.
Krishen: From Back Pain to Global Teaching
Krishen, a former translator, discovered a transformative approach to yoga through Inner Engineering. He subsequently completed a 21-week intensive Hatha Yoga teacher training and now teaches in Mauritius and Africa.
Joshita: From Social Media to Inner Silence
Joshita’s journey began with a chance encounter with Sadhguru’s teachings and led her to the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage, prompting her to disconnect from social media and embark on an inner journey.
Dhana: A Commitment to the Ashram
Inspired by a virtual event, Dhana now resides in Coimbatore, contributing to projects like Save Soil
and Rural Rejuvenation.
The Future in Mauritius
While the establishment of a permanent Isha center in Mauritius remains a possibility, the foundation’s impact is already deeply felt within the community. Entrepreneurs, teachers, and young professionals alike report experiencing inner transformation through the practice of yoga and meditation.
