Maxime Raynaud: From Stanford Star to NBA Sensation
Rising Star in the NBA
Maxime Raynaud, the 22-year-old French pivot, has wasted no time making his mark in the NBA. Drafted 42nd by the Sacramento Kings, Raynaud has seized the opportunity presented by Domantas Sabonis’ injury to secure a starting spot, averaging 8.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
Captain for Five Games
“You are the holder for five games with the Kings. Is this the first accomplishment of your NBA career?”
“>As a young person, when you’re thrown into the deep end, that’s where you progress the fastest. One-on-one, Nikola Jokic is probably the best player in the world at the moment. It was a crazy challenge. There are times when he swings the ball and it goes in, it’s frustrating (smile). In terms of “physicality”, pure and hard, Steven Adams, who is the NBA number 1 in offensive rebounds, is a beautiful baby. Against Rudy (Gobert) it was cool too, I’ve known him for a while. He welcomed me to his home in pre-season, we ate together. It’s always nice to play against guys you watched on TV when you started playing basketball. But the best way to honor them is to play as hard as possible.
A Role Model for Rookies
Raynaud’s journey from Stanford’s leading scorer (20.3 points, 10.2 rebounds) to NBA rookie serves as an inspiration for young athletes worldwide. By embracing his role as an understudy, Raynaud has found new challenges and growth opportunities.
“How was the transition from a major role at Stanford to rookie status in the NBA?”
“>He was the one who gave me a lot of confidence in the first matches. He is one of the best point guards in NBA history. He’s such an outgoing guy, you feel like he’s a coach. He talks to you, he’s super intense with everything he does. He said to me: “As soon as you’re underneath, as soon as I pass you, as soon as you’re a little open, shoot.” He helped me a lot to unblock myself mentally. Over the course of the matches, we learn to find our spaces, our connection, I understand how he likes his screens. We can still improve, but it’s a great start.
Looking Ahead
Raynaud’s objectives for the remainder of the season and his progression are clear and focused.
“What are your objectives for the rest of the season and your progress?”
