Historic Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship Tees Off at Royal Ottawa Golf Club

The Royal Ottawa Golf Club is set to host the 100th playing of the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship, the most important amateur golf event in the country, from July 27 to 30. This will be the tenth time the club hosts the prestigious event, with records being made and history in the making.

Record-setting participation

With 264 golfers from around the world, including participants from 10 provinces, 13 American states, and 13 countries, this year’s championship is set to be a record-breaker. After the first two rounds, only the top 70 golfers and ties will advance to the final two rounds.

Our sports journalist had a chance to preview the challenging course during the media day, facing difficult shots and experiencing the unforgiving long grass.

The Rivermead Golf Club Joins the Team

For the first time, the Rivermead Golf Club has teamed up with the Royal Ottawa Golf Club to host the event due to the high number of players. The managing director of the Rivermead, Mathieu Perron, is excited about the partnership and believes it will be the biggest event in the club’s history.

Local Golfer to Watch

Gatineau's Laurier Perrault, representing his club and region

Gatineau’s own Laurier Perrault will be among the local golfers representing their clubs at the championship. Having won the prestigious Alexandre de Tunis tournament last year, Perrault is eager to represent his club and region against the best amateur golfers from around the world.

The championship is free to attend for spectators, offering a unique opportunity to watch some of the world’s top amateur golf talent compete on challenging courses.

Final thoughts: The historic Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship is set to return to the Royal Ottawa Golf Club with a record-breaking number of participants and a new partnership with the Rivermead Golf Club.
