Rockets Secure Win Over Jazz, Udoka Calls Out Careless Ball Handling
Rockets Dominate Jazz in 125-105 Victory
The Houston Rockets achieved a decisive victory over the Utah Jazz with a final score of 125-105. The Rockets quickly took control of the game, leading by 16 points after the first quarter and extending their advantage to 21 points by halftime. They eventually built a 33-point lead before easing off.
Udoka Criticizes Team’s Turnover Rate
Despite the comfortable win, Head Coach Ime Udoka was critical of his team’s performance, specifically highlighting a concerning number of turnovers. The Rockets committed 26 turnovers, a season-high for the franchise.
“It was simply negligence. And it wasn’t due to pressure, traps or blitzes. We lost nine in the first quarter, so five in the first seven possessions. You can’t beat a real team, a better team, with numbers that high.”

Recent Struggles with Ball Security
This performance comes after a previous game where the Rockets as well struggled with turnovers, losing 19 balls against the New York Knicks. Udoka addressed the issue with the team prior to the Jazz game, but the problem persisted.
“We were coming out of a fourth quarter against New York where we had already lost nine balls. There, I think we were at 11 at the break. We insisted on it, we made video before coming back, and we still had to lose six in the third quarter then eight more in the fourth. This is not acceptable.”

Key Player Performances
Amen Thompson led the team with six turnovers, while Kevin Durant and Jabari Smith Jr. Each had four. Despite the turnovers, Thompson contributed 20 points, Durant added 12 assists, and Smith Jr. Scored 31 points.
“26 turnovers is way too many, but I appreciated the sense of urgency we showed to move the ball and score.”
Kevin Durant
“I still think our level of concentration could have been better. Especially after the first quarter, where we led 38-22, and where they came back to five points too quickly, for my taste and ours. Then we picked up the pace a little. We simply have to be better at the start of the second and fourth quarters, especially when we lead by more than ten points, so as not to relax and think that the match is won in advance. We must continue to dominate and seek victory.”

Looking Ahead
Udoka emphasized the need for improvement in this area, with the Rockets set to face the Kings in their next game. The team will need to address their turnover issues to maintain their momentum.
