Why another simulator?
The world of truck simulators is dominated by two heavyweights: Euro Truck Simulator (ETS) and American Truck Simulator (ATS), both developed by SCS Software. With their realistic features and expansive maps, they’ve become staples in the genre. But what if we told you there’s a storm brewing, quite literally?
Enter Road Kings, the latest addition to the truck sim scene, developed by Saber Interactive. In an interview with PC Games, Saber teased a unique selling point that has been notably absent from ETS and ATS: natural disasters.
SCS Software’s approach has been to create a serene, almost meditative experience, eschewing harsh weather conditions. Saber, however, is embracing the chaos. In our hands-on with Road Kings, we found ourselves battling a hurricane, with gusts of wind pushing against our trailer, testing our driving skills and nerves.

I feel like disasters!
Now, we know what you’re thinking: “That doesn’t sound very realistic!” But hold on. While we appreciate the cotton-wool treatment in ETS and ATS, let’s not forget that trucking life isn’t always smooth sailing. Road Kings isn’t afraid to get its hands dirty and, during our demo, we were glad it did.
On our second route, we encountered more traditional challenges. We picked up a cargo, planned our route, and hit the open road, feeling right at home for those familiar with ETS and ATS. But that was just the beginning.

On the road again
Gameplay felt familiar, with the usual controls and physics that ETS and ATS players will recognize. However, we did notice some sturdy performance when running with a controller – a blessing for console fans, as Road Kings is set to release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
Competition breeds innovation
SCS Software’s truck sims have been console-eligible for a while now, which begs the question: what took Saber so long? Well, Road Kings is breaking new ground, so it’s understandable that it needs time to refine its unique selling points.
And innovate it does. From the weather conditions to a rumored career mode, Road Kings is gearing up to challenge the champions of the genre. We, for one, can’t wait.
Road Kings is slated for release in 2026, but there’s no release date yet. Check back for updates!
