Milano Cortina 2026: Sports World United in Fighting Competition Manipulation

As the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina 2026 approach, the sports world is mobilizing to protect the integrity of the games. Recently, the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF), the Olympic Movement Unit on the Prevention of Manipulation of Competitions (OM Unit PMC), and various other Winter International Federations (IFs) came together in a workshop to sharpen their tools against competition manipulation.

“With Milano Cortina 2026 around the corner, this workshop was extremely useful…most importantly, it also helped us to plan the next steps in the collaboration with our National Federations.”

Sharing Knowledge, Learning Together

The workshop, led by the OM Unit PMC, was designed to be interactive, encouraging participants to share their experiences and learn from each other. Key topics discussed included:

  • Utilizing IF communication platforms for awareness campaigns.
  • Understanding and educating others about rules in engaging ways.
  • The role and profile of athlete ambassadors in integrity promotion.

Participants also had the chance to experience OM Unit PMC’s educational activities firsthand, visiting a replica of their booth for prevention of competition manipulation at major sports events.

“As we have embarked on a new Olympic cycle, it’s important to know that we have the IFs on board…the more we combine our efforts, the more we will be successful in safeguarding sports integrity.”

Friedrich Martens, Head of the OM Unit PMC

In addition to this workshop, the OM Unit PMC is implementing similar education initiatives for all National Olympic Committees (NOCs) globally, demonstrating a broad commitment to protecting sports integrity.
