Otto Lopez: From Blue Jays to Marlins, Quebec’s Baseball Journey
An Opportunity in Disguise
When Otto Lopez was traded from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Miami Marlins a year and a half ago, little did he know that this change would prove to be a blessing in disguise. Now, Lopez is thriving in Miami, proving that sometimes, opportunities can come from unexpected places.
The Blue Jays’ Hierarchy
Initially, Lopez admitted that being traded by the Blue Jays was challenging. With talented players like Bo Bichette ahead of him in the hierarchy, opportunities were limited for Lopez. However, his primary goal remained playing regularly in the major leagues.
I would have liked to play a little more in the major with them, but at the same time, my goal was first to play regularly in the big leagues.Otto Lopez
A Precious Memory
Among his cherished memories, Lopez recalls his first career hit, which coincidentally happened on his 24th birthday, October 1, 2022. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a teammate and friend, insisted on recovering the ball for Lopez.
Vladimir is a very good teammate. He always tries to help the new ones who arrive in the team. He had done it for me and it inspired me to work always stronger.Otto Lopez
Finding Comfort in Miami
Despite his affection for his former teammates, Lopez has no regrets about joining the Marlins. He feels comfortable and positive about his decision.
Upcoming Series: Lopez looks forward to an upcoming series against the Blue Jays in Miami from August 22 to 24.
