Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani to Bear Women’s Badminton Burden at All England Championships

Badminton’s Oldest Tournament Kicks Off This Weekend

JAKARTA – Putri Kusuma Wardani, Indonesia’s rising singles star, is set to carry the country’s hopes in the prestigious All England badminton tournament, beginning tomorrow. The All England Open Badminton Championships 2026, with a total prize fund of $1.45 million, will take place from March 3 to 8 at the Utilita Arena Birmingham in England.

Putri: Alone on the European Tour

Indonesia’s singles coach, Imam Tohari, confirmed that Putri will participate in just two European tournaments – All England and the subsequent Swiss Open (a BWF Super 300 event). Thalita Ramadhani Wiryawan will represent Indonesia in the Orleans Masters.

For Putri, it’s only All England and Swiss Open on the European tour, while Thalita will compete in the Orleans Masters.

Indonesia’s besuchte Stand in Women’s Singles

Putri’s solo European tour comes as Gregoria Mariska Tunjung continues to grapple with vertigo issues. Currently, Putri is Indonesia’s lone representative in the women’s singles category eligible for the main draw at the world’s oldest badminton tournament.

  • Putri is Indonesia’s highest-ranked player in the current BWF world rankings, making her the country’s best hope for success in the women’s singles event.
  • Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo, another Indonesian player, has yet to recover her ranking after a lengthy injury layoff. She recently competed at the Asian Badminton Team Championship (BATC).

Indonesia’s Hopes Ride on Putri

Though Indonesia has a modest record at the All England Championships, hopes are high that Putri can deliver a strong performance. Improvements in her ranking and plating consistency will be crucial for her to qualify for BWF Super 300 and 500-level tournaments.
