In a surprising turn of events, Marco Asensio, the Spanish international who joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2023, is now being asked to find a new club by coach Luis Enrique.

From Real Madrid to PSG, Asensio’s Journey So Far

Asensio, who ended his contract with Real Madrid on June 30, 2023, signed with PSG as a free agent. The 29-year-old attacking midfielder had a trying season, and his future with the club seemed uncertain. In January, he moved to Aston Villa on a dry loan, hinting at his uncertain status with PSG.

PSG’s Stance: Not in Enrique’s Plans

Since the end of the 2024-2025 season, Asensio has been considered an unwanted player by Luis Enrique. PSG, therefore, expects Asensio to find a new club if he wants to play competitively this season. Unfortunately for PSG and Asensio, Fenerbahce, a club that was initially interested, seems to have withdrawn from the race.

Fenerbahce’s New Target: Akturkoglu, Not Asensio

According to Swarthy Sabuncuoğlu, a Turkish journalist, Fenerbahce has completed the signing of Kerem Aktürkoğlu. This development may have influenced Fenerbahce’s decision to abandon their pursuit of Marco Asensio. The reason behind this, according to Sabuncuoğlu, is Asensio’s high cost and the competition for his position at Fenerbahce.

“The number 11 of PSG is struggling to find a new club because of his XXL price and competition at his post,” Sabuncuoğlu reported.
