KIA Tigers Kim Do-young, who has emerged as the best star in professional baseball this year, has started collecting trophies for the year-end awards ceremony.

Kim Do-young, who debuted as a professional after being selected in the first round by KIA in 2022, failed to meet expectations due to a poor first year and a palm injury. In 103 games, he had a batting average of 0.237, 3 home runs, 19 RBIs, 37 runs, 13 steals, and an OPS (on-base percentage + slugging percentage) of 0.674.

The following year, Kim Do-young improved his performance to a batting average of 0.303, 7 home runs, 47 RBIs, 72 runs, 25 steals, and an OPS of 0.824, but was again hampered by injuries. Due to a toe injury, he was limited to 84 games.

However, in his third year as a professional, Kim Do-young’s potential exploded. Kim Do-young showed off his batting skills from the beginning of the season by recording 10 home runs and 10 stolen bases per month for the first time in the KBO League in April of this year, and reached the milestone of 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in the first half of the season.

Kim Do-young, who continued to perform well in the second half of the season, became the youngest player ever to hit 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases in the fewest games, and even set a new record for most runs scored in a single season about a week before the end of the season.

Kim Do-young, who ran through the 2024 season without hesitation, played in 141 games and achieved impressive results with a batting average of 0.347, 38 home runs, 109 RBI, 143 runs, 40 stolen bases, and an OPS of 1.067. He was just two home runs short of becoming the first domestic player to hit 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases.

Kim Do-young, who contributed greatly to the team’s regular season win and also helped the team reach the top of the Korean Series, is expected to be busier than anyone else this winter.

As the team has achieved amazing results this season, it is highly likely that they will sweep the trophies given to the best players, such as Most Valuable Player (MVP), at various year-end awards ceremonies.

Kim Do-young has already taken the first step toward winning the award.

On the 20th, the Korea Professional Baseball Retired Players Association (Korea Professional Baseball Association) announced that it would select Kim Do-young as the best player on the 2024 Korean Professional Baseball Retired Players Day. Kim Do-young will receive the best player award at the awards ceremony held on the 1st of next month.
