Prime Minister Ünal Üsel Congratulates Wheelchair Basketball Team on European Cup Victory
The Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Ünal Üsel, welcomed home the wheelchair basketball team that emerged victorious from the European Cup 2026 Elimination Tournament. Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister İlgen Bağcıer, Üsel praised the team’s achievements and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting disabled sports.
Prime Minister Üsel: “This Success is Entirely Ours”
In his speech, Prime Minister Üsel remarked, ““I congratulate everyone for the success shown. This success is entirely the success and effort of our athletes brothers. I congratulate all of our athletes who make this happiness and pride for our country.”
Since taking office, Prime Minister Üsel has been steadfast in supporting disabled individuals, aiming to improve their lives and social integration. He reiterated this commitment by announcing that a vehicle would be procured for the Federation of the Disabled with the support of the Central Bank to facilitate transportation.
Ahmet Akdeniz: “Our Prime Minister Has Been Invaluable”
Ahmet Akdeniz, the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Disabled Sports Federation (TRNC DSF), expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Üsel. He stated, ““As the federation, we think that we represent our country and the Republic of Turkey in the best way. In this success, our Prime Minister Ünal Üsel contributed to our government. The Prime Ministry has been given financial support to our tournament. I would like to thank our community.”
Akdeniz also noted that the recent push for disabled employment, which had remained stagnant for 40 years, was achieved under the guidance of the current government.
