Painting for a good cause: The proceeds from the “Abstract Painting” workshop in Vahrn benefit the Debra Family association, which supports butterfly children and their families.

von Sylvie Debelyak

Last week a very special workshop on “abstract painting” took place in Vahrn, which not only brought creative minds together, but also supported an important cause. The proceeds go to the Debra Family association, which supports butterfly children who suffer from the rare, mostly inherited and genetic skin disease epidermolysis bullosa, which often causes those affected to experience severe pain.

The painting workshop was organized by Martina Peintner, the founder of the company iMolDos, which specializes in wall paintings, in collaboration with the company New Colors. The president of the Debra Family association, Anna Faccin, who is affected by this disease herself, opened the event with personal insights into her life and the challenges that butterfly disease brings with it.

The Debra Family association was founded in 2004 by Anna Faccin’s mother and currently looks after 35 affected families in South Tyrol. For example, the association supports the purchase of wheelchairs and the necessary plasters, because plasters in particular, which often cost several thousand euros, can represent a major financial burden for affected families. Unfortunately, there is currently no curative therapy; the only hope lies in the breakthrough of gene therapy.

Those present had the opportunity to ask questions; Martina Peintner then encouraged all participants to put their emotions on the canvas and to let their feelings guide them when painting. “We paint what we feel,” says Peintner, and explains: “Painting is like yoga. You can leave the world behind, clear your head and simply – without fear – let go.”

The images will be exhibited at the New Colors branch in Bruneck from next Monday, November 4th until the end of the year, together with a photo and a quote from the artist. The exhibited images can also be purchased. The proceeds from course fees and donations, which New Colors doubles, go to a good cause – in this case to support the butterfly children and their families in South Tyrol. In addition, New Colors will forgo Christmas presents for its employees this year and will instead fill the donation box a little more. “When a lot of small things come together, big things can happen,” concludes Martina Peintner.
