Peñarol Confirms Departure of Brush González: What’s Next for the Aurinegro?

Montevideo, Uruguay — Peñarol has confirmed the departure of midfielder Franco ‘Brush’ González, who will continue his career in Colombian football. The 21-year-old, who arrived at Peñarol after winning the FIFA U-20 World Cup with Uruguay, will play for Equity on loan with a purchase option.

From Aurinegro to Equity

The young midfielder, whose contract with Peñarol runs until July 30, failed to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup after his return from a loan spell in Switzerland. With his minutes limited at Peñarol, González will now seek opportunities in the Colombian first division under manager Diego Merino.

Colombia’s Equity won the race for González’s signature, prevailing over Argentine side Everton de Viña del Mar, who were also interested in the player. The move is on loan for a year, with an option to buy, as reported by Uruguayan newspaper El País and sports portal Ovación.

The player emerged in Danubio and played a total of 31 games with five goals scored and two assists and an expulsion in the 2023 season.

Peñarol’s Departures: Looking Ahead

González’s departure is just one of several expected changes at Peñarol, according to El País. Other players who may leave the club include:

  • Camilo Mayada (contract expires July 30)
  • Gastón Silva (seeking more playing time)
  • Felipe Avenatti (rumors of interest from River Plate)

Up Next: Copa Libertadores and the Uruguayan Liga

Peñarol will now shift focus to their upcoming Copa Libertadores campaign, facing Racing de Avellaneda in the round of 16. They will also challenge for the Uruguayan Liga title in the Closing Tournament.
