Olivier Sarr Earns NBA Opportunity with Cleveland Cavaliers
Cleveland Cavaliers have signed French center Olivier Sarr to a two-way contract, providing a boost to their frontcourt depth. The move comes after Sarr spent time with the Raptors 905 of the NBA G League, working his way back from a serious Achilles tendon rupture.
Road to Recovery and a New Opportunity
Sarr, 27, hadn’t appeared in an NBA game since the 2023/24 season. A significant Achilles tendon injury sidelined him for the entire 2024/25 season, following three seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder and their G League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue. He underwent rehabilitation alongside his brother, Alex Sarr, in Washington.
Despite a brief tryout with the Toronto Raptors earlier in 2025 that didn’t result in a standard contract, the Raptors retained his G League rights. This allowed him to compete and showcase his skills, averaging 11.2 points on 50.2% shooting (including 39.1% from three-point range), 7.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 blocks in 24 minutes per game with the Raptors 905.
Family Connection and a Memorable Buzzer-Beater
Sarr recently faced his brother, Alex Sarr, in an official game, hitting a buzzer-beater
in a memorable family matchup.
Cavaliers Address Frontcourt Needs
The Cavaliers created a roster spot for Sarr by releasing point guard Darius Brown II. The team currently has Jarrett Allen and Thomas Bryant as their primary centers, with Evan Mobley and Larry Nance Jr. Also capable of playing the position. The addition of Sarr provides additional depth, particularly with Allen recently experiencing a minor knee injury.
This marks the fifth NBA team Sarr has been associated with, having also had stints with the Phoenix Suns (Summer League 2022) and the Portland Trail Blazers (pre-season 2022).
Last Chance for a Guaranteed Contract
This is Sarr’s final year of eligibility for a two-way contract. He will require to secure a guaranteed NBA contract or another 10-day contract next season to continue his NBA journey. As noted by insider Michael Scotto,
The Cleveland Cavaliers and Olivier Sarr have agreed to a two-way deal, his WME agents told @hoopshype. Sarr averaged 4.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in 13.8 minutes per game in three seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
