When it was thought that O’Higgins would take off in the National Championship and would take advantage of the clean and jerk he achieved at the Santa Laura stadium, the light blue team traveled to the Bicentennial of La Florida to stop, as he made a mistake twice, paying dearly for a defeat against Audax Italiano for 2-0.
In the development of the game, in the first half, the local team predominated over the Rancagüinos. While it is true, in large passages it was the light blue team that had options to score first, it was the group led by Juan José Ribera that took advantage of a defensive gift.
Goalkeeper Diego Carreño made a mistake in a control and that benefited Emanuel Cecchini who managed to spike the ball and send it to the back of the net. It was the 23rd minute and Audax went on to win a game that looked favorable to them in the opening 45 minutes.
Of course, we must not fail to mention that, offensively, Capo had a couple of actions managed by Arnaldo Castillo that, had it not been for goalkeeper Tomás Ahumada’s blocks, the score would have been tied.
And so they went to half-time, with a partial fall that was expected to be remedied in the second half.
AGAIN WITH EMPTY HANDS
In the second half, VÃctor Fuentes’ team understood that they had to go all out to find the tie.
He created chances, dominated the actions, put Audax in his goal, but lacked, once again, a finish.
What’s more, as the minutes passed, he began to lose his footing on the court and despite the modifications on offense. In addition, the local team read the last minutes of the match well and thus achieved something more.
In the 90’+2′, a loss at the start gave Ignacio Jeraldino the option to establish the final 2-0. Furthermore, in what remained, the Italics could perfectly have scored one or two more.
A defeat that hurts, even more so when O’Higgins was coming off a good victory at the Santa Laura stadium and had become excited again about the goal he set for himself in the 2024 season.
Next Sunday, at El Teniente, the celestial cast will have the opportunity to vindicate themselves, when at 3 p.m. they host the Catholic University.
