The Slavia footballers will welcome FC ViOn Zlaté Moravce to their stadium in the last preparatory match before the spring part of the season. This duel, which connects an interesting story, will be broadcast live by O2 TV Sport on Sunday, February 4, 2024 from 2:50 p.m.
The Slavists originally considered playing a friendly against Slovan Bratislava, but Slovan started a duel with Dynamo Moscow at the foreign training camp. Russian clubs were kicked out of UEFA competitions shortly after the start of the war in Ukraine. European teams don’t even play friendly matches with them. However, he joined the camp in Qatar against a team from the capital of the Russian Federation, so Slavia canceled the preparatory duel with the leader of the top Slovak league.
And how did the match with Zlatý Moravci come about? When Slavia announced on the X social network that it was not planning a friendly match with Slovan Bratislava, Moravce responded: “We are ready to replace Slovan.”
And word got around… Proceeds from the entrance fee, which will start at 100 CZK, will go directly to help in Ukraine through the collection of the Slavia Endowment Fund. Together with the non-profit organization Post Bellum and the Ukrainian Embassy in the Czech Republic, who are organizing the fundraiser Help Ukraine with the Memory of the Nation, funds provided for the purchase of field ambulances and other medical equipment will be selected.
The match with ViOn is a general for Slavia at FORTUNA:LIGA. In the previous four preparatory duels, she won three times and drew once. Last week on Saturday, as part of a training camp in the Algarve, they played a double-header with the Beijing Chung-che Kuo-an team, in the first match they beat them 3:1, in the second match they lost to the winner of the Chinese Super League from 2009 without goals.
“Both duels were similar, we mainly wanted to keep on the ball. The boys have a lot of kilometers in their legs, they are tired. Part of it carried over into the matches as well, although we controlled the greater part of them. Both should have clearly won, we hit the crossbar several times or missed a clear opportunity. The lack of lightness at the end is a clear reflection of fatigue, we don’t blame the boys. The gaming side itself was of a very high standard, which is important. Now we have a fortnight to optimize everything before the start of spring. I believe that everything will be as it should be,” assistant coach Zdeněk Houštecký told www.slavia.cz after the double match.
At the end of January, he strengthened Slavia David Zima, who after two and a half years at FC Turin returned to the team with which he won two championship titles. The 23-year-old national team defender signed a contract with Slavia until June 2028.
“I never really left Slavia completely, because I stayed in the WhatsApp group of players until now. I wanted to stay in the group and we agreed that they would keep me there so that I could be in contact with the players and the implementation team to know what was going on at the club. I want to thank the implementation team and Mr. Tvrdík for what they did for me. I am ready to do my best for Slavia, whether on the field or elsewhere,” he said after signing the contract for the club’s website.
Zlaté Moravce are last in the current table of the Slovak Nike League with four points from 18 games. They didn’t win even once, they scored a point gain after four draws. The club organizes a bus trip to the match in Prague.
