Novak Djokovic Secures His 23rd Grand Slam Title With Victory Over Casper Ruud in the Roland Garros Final

Novak Djokovic has become the most successful player in the history of grand slams by winning his 23rd title in the Roland Garros Championship. He defeated Casper Ruud in straight sets, winning 7-6 (1), 6-3, 7-5 to claim his third championship at Roland Garros, following his victories in 2016 and 2021.

Djokovic’s latest victory has helped him break the tie with Spanish tennis star, Rafael Nadal, and become the player with the most grand slams in history.

Casper Ruud, the current number four in the ATP ranking, faced a repeat of his 2022 defeat in the Roland Garros final against Nadal.

“I am truly honored to have achieved this incredible feat, and I want to thank my fans for their continuous support,” Djokovic said after his triumph. “This victory means a lot to me.”

Djokovic’s Record-Breaking Stats

Djokovic entered the tournament with an inconsistent season, but he proved his mettle when it mattered most. Winning his second major of the year, after the Australian Open, the Serb has now won 21 consecutive grand slam matches. The last time he lost at a grand slam was in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros last year against Nadal.

The Serb is now the first man to win all four grand slams at least three times. In this decade, only Nadal and Russian tennis player, Daniel Medvedev, have managed to defeat him in grand slams.

At 36 years old, Djokovic has become the oldest winner of the Roland Garros Championship, surpassing Nadal by 18 days. With Nadal’s career winding down, no other player appears to be at his level.

Djokovic has now surpassed Nadal in the number of grand slams won and also equaled the record of the American tennis star, Serena Williams, and the German tennis legend, Steffi Graf. His next target is the Australian Margaret Court, who won 24 grand slams between 1960 and 1973.
