In a high-stakes Premier League clash, Nottingham Forest’s bid for Champions League football suffered a setback on Monday as they held Crystal Palace to a tense 1-1 draw. The result leaves Forest sixth in the table, two points behind fifth-placed Chelsea with just three games remaining in the season.

Penalties, Injuries, and Nail-biting Finishes

The game at Selhurst Park started with a bang as Crystal Palace took the lead through a penalty converted by Eberechi Eze on the hour mark. Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels was judged to have fouled Tyrick Mitchell in the box, though the referee required VAR confirmation.

“It was a game of two halves. First half we controlled the game. Second half we started good but then Palace reacted. It was good for us that we achieved the goal so soon after the (Palace) score.” – Nuno Espirito Santo, Nottingham Forest Manager

The lead lasted just four minutes before Neco Williams’ shot deflected off Palace defender Joao Murillo into the net. However, Murillo injured his hamstring in the process and had to be substituted, raising concerns about his availability for Forest’s crucial remaining fixtures.

Eze almost crowned his performance with a spectacular late goal, but his curling shot from 30-yards smashed against the crossbar. Although Palace have yet to beat Forest in the top division since 1991, they pushed hard for a winner and came close through Eddie Nketiah, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside.

Forest’s Top-Four Hopes Wobble

With Chelsea winning earlier in the day, Forest’s Champions League aspirations took a hit with the dropped points. However, manager Nuno Espirito Santo remains optimistic about his side’s prospects: “The final games are going to be like this, nervous games, tight games. It is up to us to react.”
