Oklahoma Men’s Tennis Faces SEC Opponents in Key Weekend

Sooner Tennis Set to Host Gamecocks and Rebels

NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 18 Oklahoma men’s tennis team will kick off conference competition this weekend at the Headington Family Tennis Center, hosting No. 34 South Carolina on Saturday at noon and No. 32 Ole Miss on Monday, also at noon.

Admission to all Oklahoma home matches is free and open to the public. Fans are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks, as concessions are not available. Oklahoma maintains a clear bag policy for all events on campus.

Promotions and Fan Experiences

Saturday’s match against South Carolina will celebrate the OU Kids Club with free keychains. A raffle for a football autographed by head football coach Brent Venables and free pizza (although supplies last) will also be available. Doors open at 11 a.m.

Monday’s match against Ole Miss will honor various Student Organizations on campus, with free corndogs available while supplies last. Doors open at 11 a.m.

This stretch of wins improved Oklahoma’s season record to 8-1.

Ranked Players Lead the Charge

Oklahoma boasts three players in the national singles rankings: senior Luis Alvarez (No. 49), sophomore Oscar Lacides (No. 79), and junior Asahi Harazaki (No. 89). In doubles, the team features No. 54 Lacides and Bruno Nhavene, and No. 71 Orel Kimhi and Johan Rodriguez.

Oklahoma previously fell to South Carolina 6-1 last season in Columbia, S.C. Currently, No. 34 South Carolina holds a 7-1 record, including a ranked victory over No. 20 Duke (4-1).

In last season’s meeting, the Sooners defeated Ole Miss 4-3. Ole Miss is currently 12-0 this season and remains the only unbeaten team in the SEC entering conference play, holding the No. 32 ranking as of February 19.

Following this weekend’s matches, OU will host Vanderbilt on February 27 at 4 p.m. CT before traveling to Knoxville, Tenn., to face Tennessee on March 1 at 10 a.m. CT.
