A Resilient Veteran and Rising Stars Head to Singapore
Vietnamese badminton icon Nguyen Tien Minh, at the age of 43, is demonstrating remarkable resilience as he prepares to compete in the Singapore International Badminton Challenge 2026, taking place from February 24th to March 1st. He will be joined by his wife, Vu Thi Trang, adding a compelling personal dimension to the tournament.
Nguyen Tien Minh’s participation marks his first international competition of 2026. He has an impressive career record, including four Olympic appearances, a bronze medal at the World Badminton Championships and a peak ranking of 5th in the Badminton World Federation (BWF). He has also secured 16 national men’s singles titles.
Wife and Younger Players Join the Competition
Vu Thi Trang will compete in the women’s singles event, having earned a direct entry into the main draw. Younger players Nguyen Hai Dang (ranked 69th in the world) and Le Duc Phat (ranked 107th in the world) have also qualified directly for the men’s singles main draw. Nguyen Tien Minh, currently ranked 263rd, will demand to compete in the qualifying rounds.

Bui Bich Phuong will also represent Vietnam in Singapore. Vu Thi Trang and Bui Bich Phuong previously won a bronze medal in women’s doubles at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
Tournament Details and Prize Pool
The Singapore International Challenge 2026 boasts a prize pool of USD 30,000 (approximately VND 800 million). Players will be vying for points to improve their BWF rankings. Other Vietnamese players competing include Nguyen Dinh Hoang, Tran Dinh Manh, Pham Thi Khanh, Pham Thi Dieu Ly, and Phan Phuc Thinh.
