TREVISO – Redevelopment work has begun on building “C” at the former Salsa Barracks in viale Brigata Marche (between the districts of Selvana and Santa Maria del Rovere), which will be allocated to youth sports, in particular fencing and judo.

This morning, February 14, the mayor Mario Conte and the councilor for Public Works Sandro Zampese carried out an inspection of the construction site, with the demolition of the building which will make room for the new construction. The pavilion will consist of three blocks of different sizes: the first will be intended for fencing and sized to accommodate 14 fencing platforms for able-bodied people and two platforms for users with reduced motor skills. An additional external volume for storage is also planned. The works will be completed in spring 2025. The total cost (financed by the Pnrr) is approximately 2 million euros.

The three blocks for sport

The central block will develop on two floors. On the ground floor, in addition to the entrance area (reception) where the access staircase to the upper floor will be locatedthere will be respectively four changing rooms for the athletes with the related services and showers, a warehouse, spaces intended for the infirmary, a public bathroom and the lift shaft. On the first floor there will be the heating plant, two large spaces intended for offices or a training roomthe service space with bathroom and warehouse and the panoramic terrace which will overlook the park. The third block will be the one dedicated to Judo.

The project involves the construction of a portico which will develop almost entirely along the longitudinal west side (almost 60 metres), interrupted only at the central access block to the building. An open but covered space will thus be recreated such as to form a continuous interconnection between the interior, exterior of the building and the new public park, with the aim that this space becomes the true fulcrum of the project, conceived as a place of interaction between the users of the structure . The architectural form has also been studied, moving from classic arches to a more rational inverted V shape which again in the design idea aims to recall the waterfalls typical of the Veneto area.

A building accessible to all

«The building, as required by the Administration and the Pnrr regulations, must have high energy efficiency and a high degree of accessibility», explains the councilor for Public Works Sandro Zampese. «Furthermore, it must be adaptable to other functions and easily manageable. To meet these needs it will be made of reinforced concrete. The porch will have a filtering function, as it provides climatic shielding and optimal regulation of the radiation of the internal environments. It will be a particularly important work for the City, cutting edge in terms of usability and spaces.”

«This intervention is part of a large regeneration project totally aimed at young people», the words of mayor Mario Conte. «The area of the former Salsa barracks, which was a symbol of abandonment and degradation, will thus be recovered by the Administration and transformed into an urban regeneration intervention, with the park, the start-up spaces, the cultural and sports centre. In this phase we will work on the gym, then on the external areas and on the building overlooking Viale Brigata Marche. I thank councilor Zampese and the public works sector which is scrupulously following the progress of the construction sites.”
