In an exciting reminder during the NFL playoffs, NBC has set the stage for the NBA’s highly anticipated return to its platforms next season. The highlight came during the halftime show of the wild card matchup between Washington and Tampa Bay, when NBC Sports debuted a new commercial featuring some of basketball’s brightest stars, including Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs and Jayson Tatum of Boston.
“As we enter 2025, our goal is to build anticipation for the NBA’s return to NBC and its debut on Peacock this fall,” said Jenny Storms, chief marketing officer for entertainment and sports at NBCUniversal. “Creating this commercial was an exciting experience as we not only honored NBC’s historic legacy with the NBA, but also showcased the talent of today’s game in a fun and engaging way.”
This next season marks NBC’s return to the NBA broadcast arena after a hiatus since 2002. With the new deal, NBC will broadcast Sunday night games following the conclusion of the NFL season and show regular season games every Tuesday night. Most notably, Monday night games will be streamed exclusively on Peacock.
The commercial also features actor Jack McBrayer, of “30 Rock” fame, leading a group of tourists that includes NBA stars in their team outfits. With a humorous twist, Wembanyama asks about the prospects of appearing on “America’s Got Talent,” while Tatum jokingly points out the need for security checks, alluding to his Celtics championship ring.
In response to Tatum’s sparkly ring, McBrayer famously remarked, “Ooh, shiny!” But Antetokounmpo, unimpressed, countered: “I have one too. I just don’t wear it everywhere.”
