NBA Fines Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards $25,000 for Incident with Game Ball

Recent YORK — Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Anthony Edwards has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for throwing the game ball hard into the stands, the league announced Thursday.

Incident Occurred During Win Over Trail Blazers

The incident took place during halftime of Minnesota’s 124-121 victory against the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday. Following a missed shot by Portland as the horn sounded, Edwards grabbed the ball and threw it towards the opposing basket.

According to the NBA’s announcement, the ball appeared to hit a stadium staff member.

Previous Fines for Edwards

This is not the first time Edwards has faced financial penalties from the league. He was previously fined a total of $420,000 last season for eight infractions, primarily related to profane language in postgame interviews.

Previously, Edwards received a $35,000 fine for not leaving the field on time and throwing the ball into the stands after being ejected from the game.

Orlando Magic’s Desmond Bane Likewise Fined

The NBA also announced a $25,000 fine for Orlando Magic guard Desmond Bane for a similar incident. Bane threw the game ball into the stands at the conclude of Orlando’s 110-109 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.
