In recent years, podcasts by various NBA players are becoming increasingly popular in the star-spangled basketball league and one of the most famous is without a doubt “Podcast P” Of Paul George.
Right in the latest episode of the podcast of the new Sixers player, the guest of the day, DeMar DeRozanexplained the reasons that led him to choose to accept a new challenge with the Sacramento Kings in this free agency. And ironically, Paul George’s move to Philadelphia influenced DeRozan’s decision:
“First of all, and this is funny, I had to wait to see what you were going to do. [Paul George]. I had a great time in Chicago and had some great teammates. But I think I was just looking for an opportunity to win at a high level, wherever that was. I think coming off last season, that was my vision and my approach for next season.”
Born and raised in Comptona suburb of Los Angeles, DeRozan would have also considered wearing the yellow and purple jersey of the Lakersthe team he supported as a child. Or even to land in the other team of the city of angels, the Clippersif George had stayed or to follow the same PG13 to Philadelphia. Or to land at coach Spoelstra’s court Miamibut in the end he chose the Kings who could guarantee him the best contract from an economic point of view ($76 million in three years) and a more important role within the team.
“Philadelphia was definitely an option. So were the Lakers, Clippers, and Heat. They were all destinations that I thought were good for me, and I seriously considered them. […] The Kings came in and showed interest. So I sat back and looked at the team and analyzed it: great players and a great coach. […] It took me a while to sign because I wanted to make sure I made the decision that would give me the best chance of winning the title.”
