Shockwaves hit the NBA as betting scandal deepens
An unprecedented betting case is rocking the NBA, with seismic rumblings starting from the arrests of several prominent figures, including Terry Rozier and Chauncey Billups. The probe is now tightening around one man: LeBron James and his Los Angeles Lakers’ entourage.

Documents and phones seized from Lakers employees
The NBA has enlisted the help of a prestigious law firm, Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, to obtain documents and phones from at least 10 Lakers employees. Specifically, the league is focused on Mike Mancias (LeBron’s physical trainer) and Randy Mims (Lakers manager and friend of LeBron) who have not yet been visited by the FBI but have garnered scrutiny from the NBA.
Other franchises implicated in the betting probe
- Orlando Magic’s owner allegedly tipped off a gambler about rested players in a match against Cleveland Cavaliers in April 2020.
- Inside information was also used to bet against the Portland Trail Blazers.

This is not the first time LeBron James has been entangled in gambling-related controversies. In 2019, a betting line incident involving James and Drake raised eyebrows.
