Navy Men’s Tennis Splits Weekend Matches, Prepares for Busy Week
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy men’s tennis team (13-9) experienced a mixed weekend, earning a decisive 6-1 victory over Long Island University (LIU) before suffering a 6-1 defeat against Richmond at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
Dominant Performance Against LIU
Navy secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1, and No. 2. Legaspi, Herrick / Spencer, Charlie (NAVY) def. Vincent, James / Touban, Bassil, 7-5
and Nguyen, Steve / Young, Jake (NAVY) def. Lemmon-Warde, Dan / Lemmon-Warde, Jason, 6-4
highlighted the doubles play. The Mids capitalized on the momentum in singles, benefiting from two LIU retirements.
Herrick Legaspi clinched the match for Navy with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles. Jake Young added a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 4, and JJ Etterbeek secured a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 3.
Richmond Proves Challenging Opponent
Despite a strong start in doubles, with George Cutone and Tommy Kim winning 6-0 at No. 3, Richmond ultimately claimed the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2.
The Spiders secured the overall match victory through a series of competitive three-set battles. Tommy Kim provided Navy’s sole point of the match, winning his No. 4 singles match with a score of 6-4, 6-1.
