Sharks Halt Skid, Edge Oilers 5-4 in High-Scoring Affair

SAN JOSE, CA – The San Jose Sharks snapped a five-game losing streak Saturday with a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Edmonton Oilers at SAP Center. Shakir Mukhamadullin scored the decisive goal, ending the Sharks’ slump and handing the Oilers their sixth loss in their last six games.

Mukhamadullin Seals the Win

Mukhamadullin broke the tie at 9:27 of the third period, receiving a pass from William Eklund and firing a wrist shot past Edmonton goalie Connor Ingram. Just go into the zone, and [Eklund] gave it to me. I’m just shooting to hit the net and I scored, Mukhamadullin stated.

Offensive Showcase for Both Teams

The game featured a combined 15 Grade A shots from both teams, with San Jose holding a slight edge in the more dangerous 5-alarm shot category, 11 to 9. Michael Misa contributed with a goal and an assist for the Sharks, while Macklin Celebrini similarly found the back of the net. Yaroslav Askarov made 20 saves in the Sharks’ net.

McDavid’s Mixed Performance

Despite the Oilers’ loss, Connor McDavid had a notable performance, recording three assists. However, his night wasn’t without its challenges.

Connor McDavid, 6. High event, some great, some bad. Three assists. He set up Edmonton’s first three Grade A shots. His failed stick check kicked off the sequence of pain on the 2-0 Sharks goal. He made a great pass to Draisaitl on Edmonton’s first goal. He got caught out of position, moving up ice on the third Sharks goal. He hustled in hard, whirled with the pucked and set up RNH for PK harpoon in the second. Got one back on brilliant sustained o-zone attack in the third, the virtuous cycle ending off with McDavid firing it cross-ice to Bouchard for the goal. Charged up ice to set up Walman on the 4-4 goal, but he turned over the puck at the o-zone blueline, kicking of one more sequence of pain, the fifth Sharks goal. Came close to scoring in the final seconds. Grade A shots plus-minus: Even Strength (EV): +4, -2; Special Teams (ST): +8, -2

Oilers Struggle to Maintain Momentum

Evan Bouchard added a goal and two assists, and Leon Draisaitl also scored for the Oilers. Connor Ingram stopped 28 shots. Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch noted the team’s struggles to replicate their recent success. You have a game like we did in LA and you feel really solid about yourself and think you’re going to be able to do it again. Think you have everything figured out. I think the first 10 minutes, they were the better team. Just too much too late.
