Michelle Wie West Announces Return to Competition with WTGL
A new chapter unfolds for the Women’s Tomorrow Golf League (WTGL): Michelle Wie West officially joins the burgeoning women’s league. The 2014 U.S. Women’s Open champion is embarking on this ambitious project.
Already an investor in the men’s Tomorrow Golf League team, Los Angeles Golf Club, Wie West will now participate as a player.
Having retired from competitive golf in 2023, the 36-year-ancient American remains a prominent figure in women’s golf, hosting the Mizuho Americas Open. A mother of two, she had not ruled out future sporting challenges.
An Enthusiastic Announcement
In a released statement, Wie West expressed her excitement about returning to competition in a new format, viewing the WTGL as a powerful platform to promote women’s golf and reach a broader audience through innovative approaches. She also highlighted the appeal of the team aspect and the unique atmosphere of the SoFi Center.
As an investor in Los Angeles Golf Club and a fan of TGL, I’m excited for the chance to compete again through WTGL, which will be a powerful platform for women’s golf,”Wie West said in a release.I’m passionate about growing the game, and TGL has proved how new formats through the lens of innovation and creativity can bring golf to a broader audience. The team aspect, matched with the unique environment at SoFi Center, is something I seek to be part of and it’s going to be incredibly fun to challenge myself, this time alongside teammates, to compete against the best in the world.”
Launch on the Horizon
The WTGL is scheduled to launch in winter 2026 and will operate independently of the men’s league.
The league has already secured commitments from several top LPGA players, including current World No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul, Lydia Ko, Charley Hull, Brooke Henderson, Rose Zhang, Lottie Woad, and semi-retired Lexi Thompson.
With this announcement, the WTGL reinforces its ambition to unite leading figures in golf around a modern, spectacular concept focused on the future of women’s sport.
