With the classification of Luis Ramon Garrido Esquivel to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games via international ranking, the president of the Mexican Badminton Federation, Francisco Javier Orozco Flores, praised the process that the New Leon player carried out to achieve his first experience in the great event of summer by placing itself in position 29 on the select list.

“This whole process leaves us with a positive balance and an achievement with this Olympic classification, it is a lot of sacrifice and work from all the parties involved and all that effort from all those parties already gave the results we wanted,” commented the federation.

“For us, qualifying for the Olympic Games represents a great achievement because it also gives us a different status before the Pan American Confederation and the World Badminton Federation due to the development we have in Mexico and the gap continues to open for support from all the institutions in favor of athletes continuing to advance and grow,” he added.

Ramón Garrido continues the presence that Mexican badminton has had in the last 16 years in the Olympic Games, becoming the second men’s national representative to achieve this after the performance of Lino Muñoz in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

Given the fact, Javier Orozco emphasized that national badminton continues to rise in the face of the upcoming debut of Garrido, Central Caribbean champion in San Salvador 2023 and Pan American medalist in Santiago 2023, and that this, in turn, opens the way for other players.

“We fight against powers and we will do so in the Games, that is very important for us. For me, it represents a very great achievement, because in each cycle in recent years, Mexico has been represented with one or two athletes and this edition was no exception; We are proud that a Mexican returns to this event and I know that he is going to do a very good job,” he said.

Given the classification process completed by the other national teams, such as Job Castillo and Luis Montoya in men’s doubles, as well as Haramara Gaitán in women’s singles, which keeps them as a reserve and still with Olympic aspirations, Orozco stressed that he hopes the list will increase.
